Sheffield Mutual joins Child Trust Fund Register

Chloe Tindall    14th February, 2025

Sheffield Mutual is the latest financial firm to proudly join the Child Trust Fund (CTF) Register, a pioneering collaboration among CTF providers, data management specialists The Tracing Group, and the registered charity The Share Foundation (ShareFound). This free-to-use register helps young people locate their CTFs more easily.

"Reuniting lost child trust funds with their rightful owners is central to our mission. I'm delighted to see so many CTF providers engaged with the register, enabling us to collectively bring more CTFs under the control of the young adults who need them," said Gavin Oldham OBE, Chair of The Share Foundation.

Sheffield Mutual is a friendly society that has been enhancing the financial wellbeing of its members since 1892. As an independent mutual organisation, Sheffield Mutual operates solely for the benefit of its members, without any external shareholders.

By the inclusion of Sheffield Mutual in the CTF Register, this initiative is strengthened by increasing the data pool within the register from their book of CTF accounts. This enhancement means that more young people can be matched through the register. Sheffield Mutual's involvement ensures that more young people can access and benefit from their CTFs, aligning with the organisation's mission to improve financial wellbeing for all members.

Paul Galloway, Chief Operating Officer of Sheffield Mutual, said: "For over 130 years, Sheffield Mutual has been dedicated to helping people across the country save for and secure their future. Saving for a child's future within a Child Trust Fund shares this commitment. We are thrilled to collaborate with The Tracing Group through the CTF Register for young people to discover their savings pot. Whether they choose to reinvest with us, spend it on a car, invest in university, or use it to celebrate, we're happy to have been part of their journey."

The CTF Register brings together the expertise of The Tracing Group in tracing ‘gone away’ individuals and the insight of ShareFound, who have been supporting account administration and the financial education of children in care for the last 15 years. Young people aged 16 or over attempting to trace their CTF should check first with their parent(s)/guardian and, if they cannot help, visit https://findCTF.sharefound.org to register for the search. There is no cost to the young person for this service. In simple cases and where the provider has joined the CTF Register, the website will be able to return to them the details of the provider who is holding their fund.
